Donald Howard Plant, 79, of Middleboro, died on September 14, 2015, at Morton Hospital, Taunton, after several courageous battles with cancer. He was the husband of the late Mary Anne (Cockrell) Plant, who predeceased him in March of 2010. Born in Fall River, he was son of the late Howard L. Plant and Marjorie F. (Minikin) Plant. He was received his bachelors degree from S.M.U. in computer programming. Donald served in the United States Air Force, and had recently been employed as a sales associate for Winbergs Hardware in Lakeville. He was past Master of the May Flower A.F. & A.M. Lodge, Middleboro. Donald enjoyed puzzles, trivia, and was a longtime sponsor of the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford. He was also a patron of the arts. His greatest enjoyment was his family, and he took great pride in supporting and spending as much time with family as he could. Donald is survived by four sons, Gordon S. and his wife Arlene Plant of Middleboro, Gary F. Plant of Middleboro, Kevin M. and his wife Marian Plant of New Bedford, Dana L. and his wife Linda Plant of Trion, Ga.; three daughters, Vanessa L. Plant of Middleboro, Dawn M. Frates of Middleboro, and Cindy L. and her husband Kenneth Costa of New Bedford; a brother, Ralph Plant of Tiverton, R.I.; two sisters, Joan Motta of Fall River and Wendy Plant of Reno, Nevada; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Philip Plant and father of the late Howard C. Plant, who predeceased him in 2008. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, September 17, in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St., Middleboro, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 18, in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Nemasket Hill Cemetery, Middleboro.
